With a combined annual revenue of $60 billion and a total of over 300,000 companies across the United States, advertising is one of the most successful industries in the nation, and across the globe. It is expected that as a whole, the advertising industry will have a growth rate of about 41% for 2008 according to AdMedia Partners. Most of the competition in the industry is between smaller, niche companies who provide special services and lower pricing. The top 50 larger advertising companies have less than 40% of the market. Advertising is a labor-intensive and creatively challenging industry, but with such a high value of product the annual revenue per employee is about $150,000. Educational requirements range from some college level studies focusing on the different aspects of advertising, to a degree in marketing and sales or communication. Being inventive, well-spoken and perceptive are important when seeking to be successful in the advertising industry.
